It’s our natural instinct to seek out joy, pleasure, balance, comfort, and contentment. Happiness wears many faces and goes by many names. When we peel back the layers of why we do almost anything, underneath it all, we usually find a longing for happiness, braided tightly with safety and love.
But here’s the truth: happiness isn’t something to chase, perform, or perfect. It isn’t found in comparison or endless striving. Happiness is an inner compass. It’s about aligning with your truth, knowing what nourishes you, and allowing yourself to be replenished.
No one can walk that path for you. The way I access happiness may not be the way you do. Your version of happiness might look quieter, bolder, or more unconventional than anyone else’s. That’s not only okay, that’s the point.
What we can do is hold space for each other. We can share ideas, swap stories, and remind one another that joy is possible even in seasons of grief or exhaustion. We can practice the art of naming what truly lights us up, and letting go of what doesn’t.
As a therapeutic coach, I get the privilege of witnessing this daily: people discovering that happiness is not about performance, but about presence. It’s about creating enough space inside ourselves to breathe, to feel, and to choose what’s real.
Of course, when discussing something as broad as happiness, we can draw information and inspiration from any of the facets I guide people through in Own Your LIFE. You’ve probably heard me talking about different facets, areas, elements, whatever we want to call them!
So far, we are looking at our relationships, our work, our finances, our fun, our spirituality, and our health. These six elements encompass a LOT of our lives, and working with them is a great place to begin.
Think of it like a pizza: if you order one, it’s always cut into slices so it’s easier to enjoy. Imagine trying to eat an entire round pizza in one bite, no, thank you! Life works the same way. Focusing on one slice at a time is a much happier way to engage with life, and with the pizza.
My invitation for you: take one moment today to ask yourself, What slice of life is asking for your attention right now?
And if you’re ready to explore that slice more deeply, to understand what’s truly nourishing and what’s draining, that’s the work I love to do in therapeutic coaching. My approach blends depth, creativity, and strategy so you can find your own version of balance and joy.
